Description
Gen 1 5.7L crate engines are excellent entry-level performance engines for older cars, trucks, and street rods. Chevrolet Performance 350/265 hp crate engines have approximately 8.5:1 compression with a horsepower rating of 265 hp and 350 lbs.-ft. of torque. These engines have a 4.00 in. bore and a 3.48 in. stroke with 4-bolt mains and 2-piece rear main seals.
Camshaft specifications are .383 in. intake lift and .401 in. exhaust lift. The open duration is 194 degrees intake and 202 degrees exhaust at .050 in. with a 112 degree lobe separation. The cylinder heads are cast iron with 1.94 in. intake valves and 1.50 in. exhaust valves, 76cc combustion chambers, and 7-bolt style exhaust flanges. These engines include painted valve covers, oil pans, and timing covers. The block is drilled for drivers and/or passenger side oil dipsticks, and plugs are included to seal off unused dipstick tube holes.
This Chevrolet Performance engine is shipped dry and requires the oil system to be primed and the valvetrain adjusted prior to initial start-up. The harmonic balancer used will need to be checked for exact TDC (top dead center) location and the timing pointer modified/adjusted to correct location.
The 350/265 Base is assembled with all-new, premium components, including a brand-new block with four-bolt main caps — a strength-enhancing feature most original and core 350 engines don’t have. This all-new assembly is delivered with the oil pan and timing cover. It is also internally balanced and features the pre-1986-style two-piece rear main seal.
